OK my two blog readers are wanting me to post something

My Job
As most of you know my secular job is in Florida. I go down there about once a month. My last trip down Sheila was able to go and we drove. It was a good trip and we got stuff done that was well past due.
Shortly after that I had a meeting with Home Depot Corporate office. Its weird but they have all of their vendors at the same time. So I am spending the day with ALL of my competition. I have to brag about my company a little…We constantly make them look bad. It takes very little effort and it is not intentional at all. Our service and abilities just outweigh them. I am confident that this meeting will bring us more business form Home Depot in the near future.

My Ministry
Things at Discovery are going well though I have to admit to “playing church” a little when I could be working harder. The Rock (Children’s Church) has really been fun lately. We have a good group of kids that seem to “want” to be there. The permanent install stuff really brings it to life. Starting in 08 we will be introducing a new character but you will have to wait and see.
We had to make more chair carts to handle the added service attendees. That is the kinda work I like!
Also we are having our 1st Christmas Eve Service tonight, so come on out and join us.

My Personal Doings
Our church PARTners hooked us up with bed and breakfast gift cards for a few nights so Sheila and I put the phones on hold (1st time in a couple of years) and headed to Burlington N.C. We stayed at the Burk Manor on the third floor with a bathtub big enough to swim in. It was great…Thank you all!
Here’s a rundown of the shopping Sheila did while I followed closely behind:
Wednesday = Raleigh: Triangle mall, Guitar center and Tiger Direct
Burlington: Mall and dinner at longhorns
Thursday = Burlington: Harley Davison store, outlets, more outlets, outdoor mall and dinner at Chili’s
Friday = Burlington: The Coat Factory (of course), J&R’s
Durham: The Southpoint Mall
Raleigh: Crabtree Mall
Greenville: diner at Chili’s with friends
The only site seeing we did had price tags on it!!! It was a good time and I did get to a few “man stores”

OK…I have Blogged!

Cause you asked for it

Attendance 12/09/07 was 166 and offering was $3522.00

We are averaging 160 people this year, that's 65 over last years average!

For newbies, we don't put numbers in our "bulletin" Sunday mornings but we want our PARTners to know the stats so I post them here (almost) every week. If you don't see new weekly numbers, it usually means I am in Fl. on business.

Our Set-up for Children's Church

not too shabby for a portable church! God is Good!

For those of you who don't know: The Rock is our k5-6th grade Church. We call it "The ROCK" after the youth ministry that I got saved under. The ROCK stands for Reaching Out for Christ Kingdom. On most Sunday mornings you will find us teaching the kids a message based on what "Big Church" is getting. We want everyone on the same page and it is working pretty well so far.

Discovery Church is a portable church that meets in the local Boy's and Girl's Club. The building is awesome and fits us well. The director of the Club has given us permission to do some permanent install in the Art room that we use for The ROCK. We have mounted a video projector, screen, speakers, lights and wired it all up. We still have a stage to put in and a few other things but our setup and teardown in there is much better than before.

Yeah, I didnt post any numbers 4 ya

I am still in Florida and don't really have any numbers...OH Wait, I did hear the attendance! Are you ready? are you sitting down? OK, God blessed us with 189 in service this weekend! I think they must have know I wasn't going to be there :)

Anyway, Sheila and I are heading back on Thursday, I know its turkey day but we figured it was the best day for traveling. Nobody going to work and everyone to stuffed to drive. We made it here in about 10 hours thanks to Sheila and her...creative driving skills! I think I may let her drive home!

Hey you want to see some Christmas lights?

Yeah, I know, Its Tampa traffic again. It only gets this way when you are trying to get somewhere!

STOP COMPLAINING

about the so called 5:00 traffic on Firetower and Evens! You do not have a traffic problem, you are not backed up and you dont need another lane! When I come back to Florida I laugh at our little Greenville traffic. It doesn't take long to remember how bad the roads are here. No matter where you are going, you better plan on at least an hour to get there,

But look at that skyline. Remember, I was raised in New Bern. These are the first "big buildings" I ever saw. I actually got to work in one of them on the 38th out of 42 floors. Man was that high! and they sway to the wind too.

the left behinds

ok, you you N.C. people know us as the N.C. church plant but here is a little look at what we left behind:
here is Chelsea, David on drums and Nathan on base. These guys are my x-Awana kids and Jasons X-youth. We watch these guys grow up into young adults and now they are leading youth praise. We really miss them and love seeing them when we come down for work. When we pull up, they almost tackle us to the ground with hugs. I cant believe how much they have grown. Most of them are Driving cars!

anyway here's a few blurry phone pics

BTW, Blame Jason for the decorating! OK people, he's GONE PAINT ALREADY!!!

Little more time

I have been prying a little more "Claude Time" out of my week here lately. I have been getting a lot of stuff done, I worked on the truck, helped a friend with his 67 Mustang and got started on the children's church install stuff. It all sounds like work but to me this stuff is relaxing (when NOT rushed). I even got a little time to just lay out on the swing. It was nice out and the clouds were refreashing to see:

anyway, just keep this between us, if Jason finds out he will either give me more to do or want to come play. So lets keep this on the down low.

Ok, Change of subject: Since I posted the sky, I was reminded of the other night at Youth Group, someone called us outside to see something and everyone ran out there. We were greeted by such an awesome sky that I had to take a picture of it. Disclaimer: [Not for me...I am a MAN and don't get into "pretty sky's and stuff" and things in general just arnt "pretty"] but I took it for you, my fans who just may not be as manly as I am, and just may find stuff pretty.

camera phone and dog w/a bone

I gave Jack Jack his first real bone...Dog went wild! You whould have though it his last meal.

Sorry bout the fuzzy pics but the dog would not be still.

For those of you that dont know

We are planning on fixin up the Children’s Church (the Rock) room with some installed stuff and décor. Not crazy because its still not our room but we want to raise the bar for both our kids and theirs.
Here is a little video for you to get an idea:

Ok, it took two weeks of not blogging to get you

to bug me about it.
Sorry, I was doing so well, then...crash and burn, I stopped blogging.
Just been busy and distracted. I will try harder to keep you all in the know.

Been doing a lot of thinking about the permanent install stuff at the Boys & Girls Club. We got a lot to do and I am itching to get on it. I am planning on going up there today to mess around and get some measurements, run the sound snake and vga cable, stuff like that. The problem is Sheila wants to do something fun and I don’t thing she sees that as fun.

Anyway, will get you updates on service tonight.

Monday, October 15

The servers get served!

first off check Jasons blog.

Ok, are you back? No, I will wait a little longer...

Wasn't that awesome?! We had a blast. THIS WAS CHURCH at its best. So when we got back for lunch. Mark form Cubbies came out to cook some of his burgers and hot dogs for us. When I told him that we'd come by Monday with a check, he told me "NO WAY" this is on him! So while we were out blessing the town, he was under a hot grill blessing us! He cooked 100 hamburgers, 100 hot dogs and provided all the fixens! So this guy who doesn't even go to our church blessed 100+ of us with free lunch...We Got Served!

So if you are coming to Greenville/Winterville, you need to stop in to Cubbies on Worthington near Old Tar and see Mark and his crew!

News woth repeating

This is taken from the "Daily Mail.co.uk"

Why did 3000 chickens cross the road? Because the lorry they were in crashed on one of Scotland's busiest motorways, that's why.

Thousands of runaway chickens brought traffic to a standstill after a transporter lorry crashed on a busy road near Glasgow.

The A80 heading towards Glasgow was shut for more than eight hours as the birds were rounded up by a specialist team drafted in by police.

The lorry carrying 3,000 live chickens jack-knifed near Castlecary at around 4.30am causing feathery mayhem for motorists travelling south and north.

The southbound carriageway was shut throughout the rush-hour, causing major tailbacks, with the M80 and M876 approach roads also closed.

Central Scotland Police said the 45-year-old driver of the lorry was treated at hospital for serious, but non-life threatening, back injuries.

The A80 is the main route into Glasgow from Stirling, Perth and the north of Scotland and is a notorious blackspot for traffic delays.

NOW THATS JUST FUNNY! I dont care who you are. I can see it now:
Her: "Why are you so later!"
Him: "uh, well...Chickens!"

What Happens

when you put the greatest young minds at Discovery Church in a van together?
Well- brain-storming of course:

Sunday, October 7

You can make excuse or you can make an impact!

After our 4 hour traffic jam we were hungry...Big Surprise! And being that some of us had some arteries that were not clogged yet, we stopped at the next Burger King. One of the first things I noticed is that one of the ladies working wasn’t in uniform. I soon found out why. They had a few workers call out sick. We waited forever for our order to be taken and even longer for our food. The one guy taking orders was in NO hurray at all. I asked him what the hold up was and he started complaining about the workers who called out. While he gripped about it, he completely stopped working! I looked through into the kitchen and noticed that the few people back there were working at a slow pace as if nobody was waiting on them to get their food from the grill into their bellies! The ONLY one rushing was the girl not in uniform. I got my food and headed for the condiment bar…OUT OF STOCK! No napkins, no ketchup and a mess. Well after cleaning it up and restocking a few things myself I sat down, prayed and ate my food while my hungry van partners waited in line. I finished my food before they all got done ordering their food!
That was an example of a guy making excuses.

Now for some people who made an impact:
The 1st day of Catalyst we went the next block over for lunch to avoid some of the 11,000 hungry preachers. We decided on a Subway. Now you all know that Subway isn’t the quickest fast food out there but this place absolutely rocked! There were already 5 or so people in line and we came in the door with 7 more and there were more behind us. I thought for sure that we made a mistake. But let me tell you, these workers were slamming. They were taking orders on down the line and setting up the nest worker. They assembly lined our subs! I really think they had a separate mustard and mayo guy! Anyway, I told the manager that I was impressed by the way they moved us through so quickly. He said “were are just doing the best we can to handle all the extra people.” They could have easily kept a slower pace and not care about their customers at all but they choose to get into the zone and serve us at their best, and that they did! We can learn a lot from them. So if you are in N.C. near Hooly Grove and need some fast food, don’t go to the Burger King! But when in Atlanta, feel free to stop by I85 and Old Peachtree Rd. and get a sub from people who think YOU matter!
Look at thier faces, do they look like they have a full house! There isnt a seat left so we have to go outside to eat.

The people we choose to be around!

Ok, here is who we crammed into Jason’s 6 passenger van for the Catalyst Conference: Jason (duh!), Me (double duh) Davey (our music dude), Randy (our other music dude who is a youth dude also), Marcus (he is Daveys caddie) and Brad (our movie dude). We covered about every area of discovery church from The head pastor to music, tech, multimedia and children by choosing these 6 people to go.

During this time together we grew closer to each other and leaned a lot about each other. Did you know that when Davey has to go do number 1 that he can hold it for 3 hours! Yeah, me neither. Marcus on the other hand cannot! As it turns out Davey and Randy are also deep Thinkers:

When it comes to picking these guys brains...read the sign!

Even Randy would not go swimming in this pool...beleive me we tried. Yes it IS green! and glowing!

This is the look Brad had all day long on both days. He was like a sponge!

I think we all had a great time and got some learning on the side.

The ride there:

On ride, there at about an hour and a half into the trip, we saw a sign saying the road was closed due to a traffic jam and to take a detour…real men DON’T detour! So 3 hours later we have traveled 6 miles! We asked a trucker (cb’s work great in traffic jams) what was going on and he told us a semi-truck crossed the median and ran over a car, killing 3 people!
This was terrible to say the least. I got to thinking that 3 people were not coming home for dinner tonight! Their families have instantly lost them. How fast can a life turn around? One minute your loved ones are on their way home and the next your family is ripped apart! Have you ever read 1 Thessalonians 5:17? It simply states: pray continually;! I have, and I wondered: what was I to pray? Well I bet the family of three travelers could give us a million things to pray for continually. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring so safety and wisdom is a good start.

anyway, may God be with thier familys and may they be with God! Amen.

Catalyst: What is it?

Over the next few post I will be highlighting my take on this trip. You may be asking yourself: “self, what is Catalyst?”, Well here is a description from: http://www.catalystspace.com/ “An unrivaled gathering of young, talented, and highly creative leaders. An event that addresses the unique needs of Next Generation Leaders, their vision, and their unique revolutionary spirit. Three days of inspiring content, powerful worship, and unprecedented experiences. It's Catalyst.
The Catalyst Conference is a premiere Leadership experience held in Atlanta, GA, on October 8-10, 2008. Catalyst has quickly become THE event for young leaders from all over the country. After eight years and 60,000 alumni, the Catalyst community is greater than we ever imagined”

Go to that site for more info.

We went Last year for the first time and it was awesome! So we had to go back for more! I was amazed at some of the speakers hitting hard on some serious issues that we all deal with. I will do a little break down of some of the ones that touch/challenged me in later post.
Here are a few phone pics that I took. I will be getting some better pictures up on our site as soon as I can.

Wednesday, October 3

guess what I am doing?

I am sitting in a van stuck in a traffic jam watching Jason blog about it...BORING!!!
Actualy, he cannot figure out how to sign it so this blog will be up before his.

Missed opportunities

Have you ever passed by a penny on the ground and NOT picked it up? Have you ever thought why you didn’t bother to pick it up? Maybe because it isn’t worth that much to you, you didn’t have the time to stop, your back hurts and you don’t want to strain it or maybe its just dirty and you don’t want any dirt on you! Well this week in service we touched on it. No, not the penny…the lost opportunity! You see, the lost penny is a lot like lost people. They need to be valued and loved, but too often we don’t recognize their worth, we are in a hurray or we don’t want to put out the effort into them. Did you know that the penny on the ground is worth just as much as it was the day it was created? Well so are the lost people. They are worth the effort and we need to be loving them, not just passing by thinking: someone else will get it. Don’t miss the opportunity to bless people. Go the extra mile and see the value.

So tell me, who’s had the best week ever last week?

Don’t know? Read on and enjoy.
Ok, to start with be sure to check my Saturday afternoon post about the cop (below).

Ok, We are doing a series on Outflow. It is dealing with God love first filling us up and then overflowing into our family, friends, town and even our world.
The message reminds us of a fountain…so we got one! Jason set up a large (outdoor) fountain in the middle of the church floor, filled it with water and let it run all during service.

This was our third week with the fountain and we got a little (but growing) surprise. Someone put soap in Jason’s fountain!!!

I love it! I am surprised that, with the people that come to Discovery, that this didn’t happen sooner. I am also a little upset that I didn’t think of it! By the time service was over there was foam clusters floating all over the building! Kids were having a blast! ANYWAY to the ones who did this…Don’t you know who you are dealing with? Why would you start something that Jason will probably win at! All I have to say is lock your car doors and install an alarm or you may get this:

You have been warned!

Cause You Asked For It.

But officer!!!

“I thought THAT WAS the speed limit! If you let me off with a warning I promise to pay better attention to the signs, AND I always donate to the Policeman’s Ball!”

You know, If I hadn’t seen mine and Sheila’s head’s on CHA CHA dancer’s, I may not of posted this…NAAAAH, I would have still posed it.

I even turned around to get a better shot! Oh yeah, on our third pass Jason has a “Sheila mask” on but my camera doesn’t do well at 45mph…which by the way, IS THE SPEED LIMIT!

When serving others gets tough!

Wow, a few moths back Discovery Church helped out a group by setting up all of our sound, stage, curtains and chairs for a gospel sing they were doing to raise scholarship money. It was great, we had a few problems like feedback and stuff but it was a great evening.

Well I couldn’t stop helping with just that so I offered to edit the videos that we shot with 2 cameras and put them on DVD…then came the problems. First off my camera didn’t record ANYTHING at all. Apparently the tape wasn’t rewound. Then their camera was a different type of tape and I can’t import it into my computer for editing. To top that, they gave me a VHS tape with an interview on it to edit into the DVD. I can get VHS into my computer either! Do you think I was getting frustrated? If you though: yes, then you are right. So the battle begins. I had to barrow 2 different cameras to get all of the video onto my computer. That bing done, it was time to edit 2 hours of film. FUN FUN FUN. So, I got that all done and feeling pretty good, almost done, so onto the DVD burning. Easy right? NO! After a whooping 11 hours of rendering the DVD will not burn! It is some type of formatting error. So my outflow attempt is getting tough to deal with. I thought I would be done today but NOOO. I will ruin one more DVD before I call a friend to help out.

So what made me think serving others would be fun and easy? I truly want to call them and bail out. But I was the one who offered to do it. They never asked me to do it. I knew (or at least thought) I could do it. So pray that my efforts will not lead to failure, pray that I don’t put an axe through my computer screen, and pray that I can get over myself and get this done without any more whining!

Yes, I am out here!

I know I havent blogged but my routine is way outta wack! So I finally got an internet connection and a few minutes. I have been going all over Florida with my 4 managers. We are compairing our stores and building ways to improve performance. It has been good and mostly fun, but it is work so not too much fun.

So the funniest thing I have seen on this visit is the picture below:

One good thing about being in N.C. is...everyone knows someone with a PICK-UP TRUCK!!! Heck, call me, I got one!

anyway, I just found this funny. Now I am going over to see if Davey blogged this week. Be back soon & miss you all.

13 wonderful years!!!!!!!!!!!!

At 11:00am 13 years ago Sheila and I were getting married. we have a great marriage and I love her more than anything this side of eternity! Sadly most marriages dont last 5 years and if you did the math on us, you would have never put us together in the same room! But God sees things differently (lucky for me). Lets see: sheila likes sports-I dont, she is organized-I am not, she likes country music-I like jam/rap, she likes ferrets- I think they stink, she thinks computers are work tool- I think they are toys, she loves vegetables-I think they are from the devil, she can read a 300 page book in a day-I cant read a 30 page book in a week, she panics-I chill, she likes winter and putting more clothes-I like summer and taking them off. I could go on and on but I think you all get the point. But we never have big arguements and when we do argue, they dont last very long (because I am always right :) ). I think us getting along so well has a lot to do with our differences. You see, you cannot build a beautiful puzzel with matching pieces! And our marriage is a beautiful one. We still kiss and make out and cuddle! I look forward to many more years together! So happy aniversary to us, I can assure you!

no I'm not spiteful!

But I do like to see rich people cry!

This is what I would call a bad day at the dry docks! The $1.5 million yacht fell off its sling while being loaded into a cargo ship for delivery. and yes that is a man on the back going for a crazy ride, he was/is fine.

what a picture! Great shot photo guy.

below is the aftermath of the 55-foot boat and the faithful crew who went down with it. Hey at least it floats!

Just checking in

Hey, Have I told you guys that I love it here? Not the city or town, but here at Discovery. I like where I serve and where God has placed me. Its easy to forget how blessed we are somtimes when things pile up and overwhelm us. God has been really moving in my life and I just wanted you all know now it. Pray for us and stay tuned in.

I laughed my booty off when they played this in church this Sunday morning.

I am going back to Florida to COOL DOWN!!!

Ok, for my faithful blog readers, you may remember me posting a thermometer in the winter of below 30 degrees to tease all you Floridians. Well look at this one!!! And the day I took this Tama only got up to 90! We lost our AC on Friday but a good friend (James w/ Heavenly Comfort AC repair) hooked us up & had us running by noon! Looks like it may be a another hot one this week!

Yeap the big 40

I look at it as more of an achievement than aging. Truth be know; I actually age one whole year at every staff meeting. Since I have been up here in N.C. I have aged some 22+ years!
Tomorrow at church I know Jason has something planned. I was going to try and figure out all possible attacks and be ready for it but I have decided to let him have his fun and I’ll get’um back later. After all, he IS an easy target, just ask James or Randy. Anyway, I will let ya’ll know what he does and keep you posted on my comeback.

oh no he didn't

So Jason made me a simpson!!! (http://discoverychurchjason.blogspot.com/2007/08/claude-as-simpson.html)
well I see your cartoon and raise you some candy! Below you will see what our loving pastor would look like as an M&M!

But dont worry, he will not melt in your hand...just on the golf course.
